  • actually-- okay wait...

yeah, what the heck was Gilda doing that lead to her being one of the victims? from what we've seen, and from the line a few pages ago about the disappearances taking place within "the last four years", this is set sort of ambiguously during/around S4 (I also vaguely remember seeing the author saying something similar). it dosn't seem like Gilda would've exactly been on good terms with the main cast during this period, so it's a bit odd that she'd've found herself in Ponyville's bakery, interacting with Pinkie in an amicable enough way for her to have consumed spiked tea/pastries...

and again, she wasn't one of Pinkie's planned victims, so I'm not sure it'd make sense to say that she was lured there by Pinkie.

  • It makes me think that she might've sent a letter to Gilda, pretending to be Rainbow Dash, wanting to make amends and become friends again with Gilda and that was enough to make Gilda come back to Ponyville and fall victim to Pinkie.

  • Oh I think I see what’s going on, they’re trying to ensure she can’t plea insanity by getting her to say that Gilda wasn’t her friend, so she can’t pull a ‘I wasn’t right in the head everyone I killed I loved’

If I recall correctly, in the original cupcakes Gilda became a victim because Pinkie never had the opportunity to make a cupcake out of a griffin before. It's a long time ago I read the story and I might have read a version with slight alterations but that should explain the why she was chosen.

I'm more wondering about the "how".

I'm not sure what situation would have lead to Pinkie having an opportunity to grab Gilda. most of the victims either lived in Ponyville or were frequent visitors, however as far as we know, Gilda didn't have much of a reason to go to Sugarcube Corner.
