MemberWell if we are talking lore...
It is reasonable to believe that The Prince and by extension his influence manifested in the Outer Rim.
But what is the Outer Rim? Judging by the background it seems this reality has iterator cans, albeit cylindrical ones. It also seems that there is some sort of great dust storm along with green stars plummeting to the world below. What does this mean? We don't really know but I theorise that this is a reality much farther along in the timeline than saint, where the dust has made it's presence known, covering all of the top of what was once The Prince's can. No rain, No snow, No time? Perhaps.
The rot, being able to fester inside of His can freely reached a state of parasitic mutualism, and from there it became something new, the rot we see leaking into timelines it should not be in. But how? When we reach Outer Rim's throne room, we only see a large cyst the first few times, out repeat visitations seeming to stir the dormant mind within the mass. I think that The Rot was focusing all of it's will on leaching into other realities, and only once it realised there was someone else willing to be the vector for it's plague, did it commune with us.
Or at least that's my two cents.
Thank you for cumming to my ted talk.

MemberLargely i agree with the other commenter on points, but I don't think it's parasitic mutualism, I think the iterator beneath is nothing but a corpse, one with all the structure needed to support a new brain. rot cells have always been mutaded iterator tissue, so we know they are at least capable of forming neural pathways. Once one got big enough to fill in the mechanical parts of an iterator, it basically took its place. Almost like it hallowed out its corpse and uses it as a skeleton to support its biomass. I think the world it was in was practically completely dormant because it successfully absorbed everything, but once you showed up it stirred back to life. The prince outright says in some dialogue that it was only able to slowly seep through the paths left behind by things like echos, but now you can make much more direct and easy to use paths. also I just gotta say absolutely would, the way you draw buttholes is very good, I'm not able to get them down yet.

MemberThe "cylindrical iterators" are named Starcatchers in the files. Just letting you know.
