Mario is a video game character created by Shigeru Miyamoto. He is the mascot for the video game company Nintendo and the eponymous main character of most of the Mario Bros. series. He is a short, portly, Italian human with brown hair and a bushy mustache who lives in the Mushroom Kingdom. He frequently goes on rescue missions to save Princess Peach from the evil Koopa king Bowser. While he mostly does this alone, he is sometimes aided by his twin brother Luigi. In most of his appearances, he wears blue overalls, a long sleeved red shirt, white gloves, brown shoes, a red hat with his trademark M logo on it.

Besides appearing as the main, playable character in Mario Bros. series which are primarily 2D and 3D platformers, Mario also appears as the main character in numerous spinoff series and games in different genres including Mario Kart, Mario Party, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, Paper Mario, and Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle. Additionally he is one of the headline characters in the Super Smash Bros. series, appearing on the box art of every game in the series to date.
