Suffering is the prolonged exposure to, or the effects caused by an unpleasant, or traumatic event, or activity. The state of suffering typically involves experiencing intense physical or mental pain over a period of time. The duration of time necessary for a character to suffer depends on the intensity, and the nature of the traumatic event. Examples include a character on the brink of death from massive trauma, or exposed to highly painful stimulation such as from burning alive.

Activities that are designed to temporarily cause pain probably do not qualify towards the suffering tag. Acts of genital torture should be handled on a case to case basis. Kicking someone in the balls once may not qualify as suffering, but doing so repeatedly may qualify as both a form of suffering, and torture.
