Maeve and Reed 4 - Matron Edith

Sketch of the 1252nd page of Twokinds.

Transcript

Edith: Yeah? Whatdaya want?

Reed: You're… Edith?

Edith: You're probably thinking of my late grandma, but yeah, I'm also Edith.

Edith: And before you ask, no, there's no beds left. We were full even before the fires. Sorry.

Reed: Oh, it's not for me. I'm with the guard. I was told you'd have a room for this one?

Reed: This is Maeve. Her mother went missing recently. She just needs a safe place to stay for a day or two, until her mom is found.

Edith: Oh… …a Keidran…

Edith: …Are you sure?

Reed: Uh… yes?

Edith: …Okay… this way.

Reed: Wait, what did you mean by that? Ma'am?

  • I get an inclination the next page is going to be a wild reminder that slavery is a very common and active thing in human settlements

  • It's gonna be cages or some other nasty shit, isn't it? I knew that sign on the last page was misleading!

  • That granddaughter Edit Edith looks so defeated.

So I was originally thinking on the next page we'd see a bunch of feral keidran kids in a trashed room. Then I saw mention of cages and I think it regrettably might be that.

Either way, I am fairly confident that Alice won't be leaving Maeve there.

Feel like smashing my phone so dam badly right now

Probably just an overcrowded dorm full of sad, dirty underfed children, since Edith here doesn't seem to have the resources to care for them all.

  • My guess, the orphanage is going to be bad enough that Reed offers Maeve to stay at her place.

Had a suspicion this would never turn out as good as the one-off sketch.

I make my bet right now that it would be like this, but 10 times worse.

Also, big F for the granddaughter, she looked so different in another sketch.

  • "This room was completely designed furnished and provided with art by a human named Eric Vaughan"

If that sketch has any truth to it, then my guess is that Grandmother Edith was a good person, but after she passed, some unsavory person/people probably strong armed their way into controlling the orphanage somehow since the bonus art for this page shows two images of this Edith, with the first one of her being happy and looking full of energy while the second is of her now.

  • While it is very possible that it's the lockup for slaves, I like the idea that it's an room for keeping coal and fireplace cleaning items, leading to a Maeve that looks like post #2344834
