Species: camelid

post #1500385 post #596783 post #600866

Camelids are members of the biological family Camelidae, the only currently living family in the suborder Tylopoda. Camelids are even-toed ungulates, classified in the same order as pigs, whales, deer, cattle, antelope, and many other animals.

Camelids have slender necks and long legs. Current living camelids have two-toed feet with toenails and soft foot pads, lacking true hooves seen in other ungulates. However, extinct species of camelid have been seen with hooves. Camelids are behaviorally similar in many ways, including their walking and swaying gait. Consequently, camelids large enough for human beings to ride have a typical sway once in motion.

Many species of camelid have been domesticated for thousands of years, often for their wool, milk and milk products, meat, or even their physical labor.
